What is the Key to Consistency? | Building Beautiful, Week 2

What is the key to consistency? This post will talk about how I did on my goals from last week and focus on what I’m learning in the process.

What is the key to consistency?

One Week Down

Last week was full, and one of those weeks that truly felt like a blur.  We’ve been enjoying the last few weeks of our homeschool year routines and looking forward to summer. Bible Study Fellowship (or BSF) is ending soon, and the Homeschool Karate class my son is a part of only has a few weeks left. My son’s cottage school (part of Memoria Press’ cottage school curriculum) is winding down, too.

The end of the school year is the end of a chapter, but the beauty of life is that the story keeps going with new and exciting things right around the corner.

We went to go see cousins and watch their games. We went out to eat and celebrate my son turning six (Six! Can you believe it?). And, we got ready for our upcoming week away.

Here’s what I wanted to accomplish last week

  • YES – Celebrate J’s Birthday. My little guy is already 6 years old! We’re planning on going out to eat for dinner after he gets done at Cottage School
  • YES – Get caught up with school after a week of sickness
  • YES – Finish Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine
  • YES – Plan out a workshop for Christian Workers’ Seminar, a weeklong event that is next week (!) It’s the first live workshop that I’m hosting, and it’ll be about digital ministry.
  • YES & NO – Batch record next 3 podcasts & Write 2 Blog Posts
  • NO – Plan Spine of Summer Issue of A More Beautiful Life Journal
  • YES – Get my workout area set up at home. I was thinking about joining the gym, but I think now I’m planning on trying to work out at home. I’m planning on incorporating walking into my morning power hour. (I’d love to hear your tips for working out with little kids at home.)
  • 5/7 Days – Get 10,000 steps every day
  • NOT REALLY – Evening Close

You can see that I’ve been able to accomplish quite a few of my goals, but I didn’t tackle everything. (Which is probably because I had too much on my list last week.)

Consistency is Built By Good Habits

My main goal last week was to be consistent. After three babies, I need to focus on my health, and I know that the biggest factor will be consistency week after week with waking up and doing what needs to be done.

This past week, I actually accomplished that. I’ve struggled with having time in the morning to do my Bible and books, plus some work-related tasks plus working out. I just never seemed to have enough time.

What I did this past week that actually worked really well is wake up, do my morning routine, and instead of jumping to working on my computer, take the first 30 minutes of my ‘power hour’ and use that time to walk on the treadmill. I add in a few sit-ups, push-ups, and squats right before I work out – and for the first time, I think I’ve found a sustainable way to keep up this habit.

My walking pad has been a game changer for this routine (get a similar one here). I also have this stair stepper and this set of weights to finish out my home gym.

On the other hand, I struggled with following through on my Evening Close Routine. Evening Routines should be the time when we connect with our families and prepare our hearts for the next day. But, when I get to the evening, so many times I just feel done. This is an area of life that I really want to focus on and develop.

All About Content – It’s Consistency

This week will be an unusual week. We’re headed up the mountain to Christian Workers Seminar, where I’m giving a workshop on Digital Discipleship. Because of this, I’m shelving my routine-focused goals because we will be busy enjoying the time with everyone there.

That being said, I do want to focus on Content Creation. My workshop is on building a sustainable digital ministry. I know that I’ve had stops and starts with this blog and all the many facets that go into it. This is something that I want to overcome.

I want to build structures that lead to sustainability, where my content creation is working towards my goals – rather than just being a hamster wheel that I can never get off of. Thinking through this is one of my primary goals this week.

I know this type of consistency is crucial to actually showing up a year from now. That’s my goal.

This Week I’m Working Toward:

  • Enjoying my time at Christian Workers Seminar with my kids
  • Create a sustainable planning structure for content
  • Post 2 blog posts

What are you working towards this week? Post your goals below, and we can hold each other accountable!

Until next time, keep creating a life you love and cultivating your heart for God.
